  • 25 things about me

    25 Things about me....okay, I did it.

    1. I grew up on a dairy farm in beautiful northern Illinois.  I was blessed with great parents and two brothers who have become my good friends.  We had a wonderful childhood.

    2. My kids can never complain to me about chores.  They have never had to go out in the dark, winter morning before school to feed the calves, nor have they ever unloaded hay bales from a wagon into a barn on a 90 degree day.

    3. I have an associate’s degree from Kishwaukee College, in ornamental horticulture.

    4. I worked as a floral designer for several florists before Chelsey was born.

    5. I am so glad I married Brad.  He is funny and interesting and loves to tell me things. He is also a really good dad.

    6.  I am so thankful for my 7 wonderful kids! And my wonderful son-in-law!

    7. I think too much about things and I can be very wishy-washy.  I hope to overcome this in my old age.

    8. I think aprons are very fun.

    9. My favorite things about homeschooling have been the books we have read together and the scripture we have memorized.

    10. I love to read biographies.

    11. I like to sew and quilt, however I don’t do it as much as I would like.

    12. I enjoy hiking with my family in the beautiful state parks and nature preserves around Oakland County, Michigan.

    13. My favorite fashion era is the early 1990s.  I still have and wear clothing from those days!

    14. I am turning 50 next month.

    15. I am thinking about having some sort of midlife crises or melt down.

    16. I am a world class procrastinator.

    17. I am more of a dreamer than a doer.

    18.  I talk to myself a lot.  In my head. (not out loud, like someone I know)

    19.  I like to shop in thrift stores...hence #13.

    20. I don’t like to shop at the mall unless I’m with Chelsey and/or Kristin.  Then it’s fun.

    21. I am easily intimidated.  I am trying to overcome this tendency.

    22. I can easily feel like I am 12 years old again. (probably related to #21)

    23. This move to Michigan has been harder than I thought it would be, but easier, too, in some ways.  God has shown His goodness in so many ways.

    24.  A favorite Scripture passage is Isaiah 41: 13 “”For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, ‘Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”

Also, Psalm 139, Psalm 121, Psalm 146, Psalm 115, Eph. 6:10-18, the Gospel of John, the whole book of Romans....I could go on and on.

    25. I am thankful that Jesus saved me, a sinner.  That He keeps me and I am His. I am also thankful for the Holy Spirit and His convicting, transforming work in my life.  For the Scripture that feeds me and gives me hope. For my Father in heaven Who is in control of all things and Who holds my hand as I go through this journey of life.

    The end.

  • Our visit to Illinois and other thoughts on a cold night.

We made our first visit back to the Chicago area this past weekend.  We saw CYT's Narnia(the kids were great!!), and Chelsey's opera at Trinity, Dido and Aeneas, which was wonderful. We visited with friends, stayed up way too late, worshipped at Lakeland Sunday morning, enjoyed being with Chelsey and David, and ate out at restaurants for almost every meal.  We drove by our old house, "Just go by fast..."  I said.        We had a wonderful time, but it was a lot harder than I thought it would be.  Once we were there, it seemed like we had never left, and so saying goodbye again was almost as hard as the first time.

We came home to a snowy, cold Michigan!

Thanksgiving is around the corner....how could it be November already?  Where does the time go?

    God is good.

  • Random thoughts and observations

    1. I had never seen Red Squirrels until I moved to MI.  They are so cute, about a third the size of regular squirrels; a little bigger than a chipmunk.  We have a lot of them in our back yard and they are fun to watch.

    2. People are getting rid of my dishes, Heritage by Pfalsgraff!  And I keep finding them at the Salvation Army.  I have 20 plates now, and recently found the matching mugs which are so cute.

    3. The microwave at our new house beeps at you when it is finished.  And keeps beeping until you retrieve whatever you were warming up.  So now I hear the beep and think, Oh!  my coffee!  No more day old coffee in the microwave.  A nice feature.

    4. I am bad at cutting hair for my poor boys.  I really try, but it seems the haircut usually ends with me saying,"Well, It's better than being too long!  It will grow out....you can always wear a hat."

5.Nothing makes you forget your own aches and pains more than having a sick child.

    So there!  A Post.

  • I just de-activated my facebook account, and it feels good!  I was finding myself feeling left out and jealous when looking at all the photos of fun activties.  My sinful nature bubbling up.  Oh well, we'll see how long I can resist going back.

I have a lot to do.  I've been helping the boys with school.  I also must hang pictures on the walls and finish several sewing projects. I am making a really cute vintage apron!! I am also studying Philippians with a Precepts Bible Study at church.  Life is good!
